“Gush” 2024
Dimension: 60 x 43 cm
Media: Mixed media/ collage
"Gush" explores the element of water as a symbol of creativity and freedom, while also reflecting on its dual nature as both nurturing and overwhelming. The work draws inspiration from the moment when water breaks at birth, representing the powerful and unstoppable flow of life and creative energy. This flow is depicted as continuous and boundless, much like the process of creativity itself, which can be both nourishing and overwhelming.
For this collage, I created all textured paper using ink paint, which I then cut and arranged to evoke the fluidity and movement of water. The piece reflects on water as a metaphor for motherhood, embodying both its positive and shadow aspects: nurturing and life-giving, but also suffocating and all-consuming at times. Through its intricate composition, "Gush" invites viewers to consider the complex relationship between creation, freedom, and the forces that can both support and restrict us. The tactile, layered approach emphasises the organic, ever-shifting qualities of water, mirroring the emotional and creative depths it represents.
